Urban School of San Francisco - Performing Arts and Community Center

Urban School’s Performing Arts Community Center (PACC) opened its doors in November 2024, following 22 months of construction.
The project involved the adaptive re-use of a historic single story, with mezzanine, bow roofed gymnasium. The four walls of the gym were shored and the roof was kept intact while an entire subterranean level containing music classrooms and rehearsal spaces was excavated and constructed.
A 365-seat theater space was designed to serve the school’s legendary drama and music departments.
The edge of the stage space and fixed seating features an innovative system of scissors lifts which provide either additional seating, stage extension, or an orchestra pit.
